What I find most amusing about this comic was as soon as I saw the title, “Escalators”, I’m just thinking how much fun it is to run up the down escalator. Low and behold that is exactly what the comic is about. Good to know I’m not alone in my urge to do so.

With the release of the version, the official del.icio.us extension for firefox has improved greatly. This new version is what it took to get me to switch from a third party extension back to the official one. I’ve always wanted to use del.icio.us for all my bookmarking needs, replacing the normal bookmarks in my browser and it seems that day has come.

After some use, I’ve decided this provides the greatest integration of firefox and del.icio.us I could imagine and there are many reasons I love it.

The sidebar is by far the most convenient way to look through them and find what I’m looking for.

Viewing my bookmarks by either recently saved, recently visited, or most visited provides a lot of flexibility.

Having a del.icio.us menu and hiding the old bookmark menu since I never use it anymore.

Having a delicious toolbar I can have favorite tags or any bookmarks I want in.

Portability: now I can go to any computer and quickly get my bookmarks setup in any installation of Firefox.

Perhaps my favorite feature is support for keyword searches saved in del.icio.us, if that isn’t the ultimate in browser integration I wouldn’t know what is.

Little by little I’m becoming more productive on computers other than my home computer and it’s wonderful. Check it out here

I’ve had a dislike for powerpoint for as long as I can remember. Reading this article has only reinforced my reasoning behind it. People do not use powerpoint correctly. It is meant to be a supplement of what you’re saying that presents some other information. Using powerpoint to just list the information you’re going to say verbatim has always annoyed me and I’ve seen it done so many times. Now there is scientific research that shows why this use is bad. The working memory doesn’t handle it very well and we would get more out of a presenation that didn’t use powerpoint at all instead of using it badly. It’s always reassuring to have science on your side.

I have really underused the great service Zooomr provides but this morning I was going to upload my pictures from vacation up their and finally get around to using it much more often. I visit the site and low and behold they’re in the process of releasing Mark III, the newest incarnation of Zooomr. Only some of the great things we can expect in this release:

6 Months in the making

Over 250 NEW features, improvements and refinements

Sell your photos as stock — you keep 90% of the sale!

Unlimited storage and archival for all users — no limits on photo size, either!

For developers: An Open API so that you can access all of the richness of Zooomr in your own apps.

Once this is released on the 15th, two days away, I’m sure I’ll get more use out of it and finally build up my online photos as I’ve been meaning to do for a couple years now. The public API is damn exciting as well since I’m thinking of finding a good way to put it to use and hopefully it works. The suspense is so great I can hardly contain myself. My regards to both Thomas Hawk and especially Kristopher Tate for all the work they’ve put in to making this happen.

One of my favorite places to get music online is Daytrotter. You can go here and download sessions of songs by bands that are recorded live. I’ve found amazing things there and recommend everyone to check it out and especially look at the archives for all bands that have stopped by.

When I was there downloading the sessions by About (free songs here) I saw the counter of total songs served at 499,999 when I downloaded the first song and the next song it was at 500,001. I’m going to conclude there is a damn good chance I was the one to get that 500,000th song and it really makes me feel special. Best of luck to them in the future as I thoroughly enjoy discovering new music and bands I already know and love.

It wasn’t something you chose to do out of your own free will because if you don’t do anything you’re going to be living in the doghouse for a while. Now you may be thinking some sort of substance addiction but that’s not quite it. At first when I read Kirk Biglione’s post over at Medialoper I laughed to myself as I realized not many people I know would understand what he was even talking about. The realization came to me slowly as I tapped ‘j’ to move on to the next item in Google Reader. In the next few minutes I found myself thinking “Am I the same way?” and “Do I also suffer an RSS addiction?” The only conclusion that I can come to is that yes indeed I am addicted to reading all my feeds. I also enjoy it and sometimes wonder how I ever used the internet without them to guide my reading. Things would be simple if it just stopped there but I’ll be innocently browsing some sites online and there it is…

Sitting there just staring at me from the address bar, “You know you want to.” or “How else will you keep track of this great site?” and I give in. Currently I’m at 158 feeds and loving it.
